Yes, you’re reading it correctly! The first draft of PROJECT CHANGELING, the first Serena Keilor novel of future Mars, is now complete! The manuscript clocks in at just over 81,500 words.
Although I’ve published 11 previous novels, I still find writing the first draft to be the most difficult step in the process. Much like trying to make it from one end of a tightrope to the other without falling off.
But now that it’s done, the fun part starts! I’ll let it sit for a few days to marinate, then I’ll go back to the beginning and do the revision/rewrite pass through. Which means trimming stuff that doesn’t seem to be working and fleshing out stuff that needs a little more substance.
Can’t wait!
